Trend Insights overview showing time-series emission analysis

Welcome to Trend Analysis!

Trend Insights provides powerful time-series visualization of your emission data to help you identify patterns, measure the effectiveness of operational changes, and understand seasonal variations in your emissions profile. You’ll quickly learn how to track progress over time and demonstrate the impact of your improvement initiatives.
Time Required: 10-12 minutes for completion What You’ll Learn:
  • Analyze monthly emission trends and identify patterns
  • Measure the effectiveness of maintenance protocols and operational changes
  • Compare performance across different time periods and initiatives
Common Pitfalls:
  • Analyzing too short a time period can miss important seasonal patterns
  • Not accounting for operational changes when interpreting trend data can lead to incorrect conclusions

Your First Steps

1

Access Trend Analysis

Navigate to EmissionOpsInsights & AnalyticsTrend Insights from your main dashboard. You’ll see month-over-month emission trends displayed as interactive time-series charts showing both emission rates and total mass over time. The main view displays your emission trends with clear month labels and the ability to hover over data points for detailed monthly breakdowns.
2

Set Your Trend Analysis Period

Configure your analysis timeframe:
  • Select a time range spanning at least 6-12 months for meaningful trend analysis
  • Choose your asset scope (regions, business units, or specific asset groups)
  • Apply filters for specific event types or detection methods if needed
Best Practice: Start with a 12-month view to capture seasonal patterns and operational cycles.
3

Identify Trend Patterns

Examine the Monthly Emission Trends chart to understand:
  • Overall trajectory (improving, stable, or degrading performance)
  • Seasonal patterns in your emissions (higher/lower periods during certain months)
  • Month-to-month variability and consistency in operations
Look for significant changes in slope that might correspond to operational improvements or equipment issues.
4

Analyze Multi-Dimensional Trends

Explore the breakdown charts to understand trends by different dimensions:
  • By Status: Compare trends for open vs. closed events to see resolution improvements
  • By Equipment Type: Identify which equipment categories are improving or degrading over time
  • By Detection Method: Track the effectiveness of different observation technologies
You Did It!✅ You can now identify long-term emission patterns and trends✅ You understand seasonal variations in your operations✅ You can measure initiative effectiveness through before/after comparisons

Quick Wins

Now that you’ve explored your first trend analysis, try these activities to deepen your understanding:

Measure Initiative Impact

Identify a maintenance or operational change in your timeline and compare 3 months before vs. 3 months after. Time: 5 minutes

Find Seasonal Patterns

Look for recurring monthly patterns (e.g., higher emissions in summer) to inform seasonal planning. Time: 4 minutes

Track Equipment Performance

Filter trends by specific equipment types to identify which categories need proactive maintenance. Time: 6 minutes

Detection Technology Assessment

Analyze trends by observation type to evaluate which detection methods are most effective over time. Time: 5 minutes

If You Get Stuck

Set your time range to include several months before and after your initiative implementation. Look for sustained changes in the trend slope rather than single-month variations. Consider seasonal factors that might influence the comparison.
This could indicate either stable operations (good!) or that patterns exist at different time scales. Try extending your analysis period to 18-24 months, or break down by specific asset groups or equipment types to find more granular patterns.
Use the toggle in the chart controls to switch between emission rates (kg/hour) and total mass (kg). Rates show intensity patterns while mass shows total environmental impact over time. Both views provide complementary insights for different business decisions.
Yes! Your filter settings persist when you navigate between Trend Insights and Summary Insights, allowing you to seamlessly analyze the same data from both temporal and aggregated perspectives.
